Information: Since their inception in 1868 Glasgow Institute of Architects primary aim has been the 'Advancement of the Art and Science of Architecture'. GIA President Martin McKay will introduce the event with a brief history of this historic institute- from Alexander 'Greek' Thomson through the present day. This will be followed by a series of lectures from the very best architects presenting work both new and old. Programme 2.00pm Welcome & Introductions 2.05pm Glasgow Institute of Architects - A History See overview above 2.30pm ZM Architects ZM Architects will discuss their Glasgow School of Art Conservation and Access Project (GIA Commendation 2008) which will give visitors to the Glasgow School of Art a better understanding and appreciation of the building and the World Heritage Site. ZM will also present their ongoing work at the former Templeton's Carpet Factory on Glasgow Green. 3.00pm Art in Architecture Art has traditionally played an important role in Architecture and the development of our cities. In this talk artist Kenny Hunter will discuss how art and sculpture can help shape our heritage. Kenny's works derive inspiration from the past and draw upon contemporary popular culture his work includes 'Citizen Firefighter' in Glasgow's Hope Street. 3.30pm Page/Park Architects Award wining Architects Page/Park (GIA Award Winners 2009) take a creative and wide ranging approach to Conservation. In this talk they will present a series of projects focusing on contemporary approaches to conservation and reuse of existing buildings. 4.00pm Questions and Answers 4.30pm Close
