Information: Alexander Thomson's finest villa, now an A-listed building, was built for James Couper, a Cathcart businessman, who with his brother Robert ran a successful paper mill on the banks of the River Cart. Their legacy to the local community was the Couper Institute and the Victoria Hospital. The building is now in the care of the National Trust for Scotland.
