Information: Opening in 1867, the first theatre on this site was the Royal Colosseum and Opera House. Following two fires in 1879 and 1895 the auditorium was rebuilt on both occasions by Charles John Phipps. The theatre was bought by Scottish Opera in 1972 and continues to be the owner. Tours of front of house and backstage will take place at 10am and 11am with a maximum of 15 people per tour. Booking essential. Tours last approximately one hour. Due to the nature of backstage areas tours are not suitable for people with limited mobility; however there is level access and accessible toilet facilities when visiting the theatre for shows. Please book ahead to avoid disappointment.
