Join Glasgow Building Preservation Trust and make a difference to our City

Glasgow Building Preservation Trust is a charity established some 27 years ago.  It is run by a dedicated unpaid and unsung Board of 13 Glasgow citizens, who are all committed to saving the built heritage of Glasgow for future generations to enjoy.  The Trust has organised Doors Open Day for two decades and helped it flourish as interest in our city’s brilliant architecture grows amongst citizens and visitors alike.

Introduction to Glasgow Doors Open DayHistorically the Trust has always worked closely with Glasgow City Council to deliver Doors Open Day and we appreciate this supportive and ongoing partnership.

Glasgow is an extraordinary city with remarkable tenements, churches, docklands, shops, museums and parks built around the River Clyde.  Glasgow’s most well known architects, Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson, are now widely understood and revered.  However, along with a built legacy comes a heavy responsibility to maintain and look after our buildings.  At the last count there were over 150 important Glasgow buildings at risk that need attention.

When we are not organising Doors Open Day our charity spends most of its energy saving our built heritage by establishing new uses for and restoring much loved buildings.  Amongst the many buildings we have saved are The Tobacco Merchant’s House, Castlemilk Stables, Kirkhaven Church and St Andrew’s in the Square.  Our current projects include Pollokshaws Railway Station, St Margaret’s Church in Oatlands, repairs to Provan Hall, the Pearce Institute and Hutcheson's Hall and establishing a new use for Gartnavel Royal Hospital Chapel.

Glasgow Building Preservation Trust has proven that through looking after our built heritage it is possible to generate fresh investment in old buildings and create a stronger city where more and more people want to live and work.

We always need supporters for our activities, and we invite you to visit one of our two websites, www.glasgowdoorsopenday.com or www.gbpt.org join us now and become a part of and contribute to the future success of our organisation.
